There were not going to be any surprises on top of the podium, but Ernie Els would have been happy with his solid share of fourth on Sunday in the PGA Tour Champions’ TimberTech Championship at The Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, Florida.
Els carded a closing one-under-par 70 to move to eight-under for the tournament. There was going to be no catching Padraig Harrington, however, who made nine birdies on his way to a seven-under-par 64 and a seven-stroke win over Charlie Wi of Korea and evergreen German Bernhard Langer. At nine-under, the runners-up were one ahead of Els and Shane Bertsch of the United States in fourth. Els made four birdies and three bogeys in his final round.
Retief Goosen closed with a one-over-par 72 to slip into a share of 30th on level-par for the 54-hole tournament.
