Ahlers cards 66 in 3rd round of Hong Kong Open

Jaco Ahlers carded a six-under-par 64 on Saturday in the third round to climb into a share of 13th and give himself a shot a finishing in the top 10 in the Asian Tour’s Hong Kong Open at Hong Kong Golf Club.

He bookended his round with bogeys, on one and 18, but eight birdies saw him head into the final round at 10-under-par, six shots off the lead. The lead was shared by Cameron Smith of Australia and Phachara Khongwatmai of Thailand. The leaders were one clear of Ben Campbell of New Zealand.

The South African who had been his country’s leading contender in the first two rounds, Jbe’ Kruger, had a third round of two-under 68 to move to nine-under-par, one stroke behind Ahlers, in a share of 22nd.

Ian Snyman signed for a three-under 67 to head into Sunday in a share of 49th on five-under-par
