Darren Fichardt is the leading South African after his second round of four-under-par 67 on Saturday in the DP World Tour’s final stage of the DP World Tour’s Qualifying School on the Lakes & Hills Courses at Infinitum Golf in Tarragona, Spain.
Fichardt opened with a three-under 69 on the par-72 Hills Course, and his second round of five birdies and a bogey came on the par-71 Lakes Course. At seven-under, he was in a share of 16th in the six-round marathon.
The lead was held at 12-under-par by Freddy Schott of Germany after a superb 63 in the second round. He was one clear of Sebastian Garcia of Spain, with three players in a share of third on 10-under-par. Benjamin Follett-Smith of Zimbabwe, a two-time winner of the Cape Town Open on the Sunshine Tour, was in a share of sixth on nine-under-par.
Pieter Moolman was one shot behind Fichardt on six-under after he carded a six-under 66 on the Hills Course. He was in a share of 19th together with Jacques Kruyswijk, who had a 67, also on the Hill Course.
Deon Germishuys was on five-under in a share of 30th after a 66 on the Lakes Course, while Wynand Dingle was on three-under in a share of 57th after he signed for a 70 on the Lake Course. Thomas Aiken climbed to a share of 69th after a four-under 68 on the Hills course took him to two-under. Albert Venter was also on two-under after he had a 70 on the Lakes Course.
JJ Senekal was on one-under in a share of 89th after a level-par 72 on the Hills Course, While Bryce Easton was on level-par after he carded a two-under 70 on the Hills Course.
Luke Brown was battling, but had a one-under-par 71 on the Hills Course to climb to six-under and a share of 147th.
