Cara Gorlei was the best-placed of the South Africans going through to Final Stage of Lalla Aicha Q-School after the third round of the Ladies European Tour’s Pre-Qualifier Marrakech on Tuesday.
Gorlei saved her best for last with a closing round of five-under-par 67 at the Pre-Qualifier Samanah, putting her in third place. She made an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys, and she reached seven-under-par for the 54 holes. That put her four shots behind the winner, American Aneka Seumanutafa, and two behind the runner-up, Fernande Lira of Mexico.
Gorlei explained: “I’m pretty pleased. I shot my best nine-hole score ever, turned in 30, six-under, and then I kind of put the brakes on. I got to seven-under, but it’s been a long week and I got a bit tired. I’m happy to be able to play next week.”
Britney Fay Berger missed out at the same course after she closed with a six-over-par 78 to finish on 17-over in 60th place. The top 24 players and ties from Samanah went through – a total of 28.
From the Pre-Qualifier Noria, Lindi Coetzee and amateur Danielle du Toit made it through to Final Stage. Coetzee closed with a three-over-par 76 and was on four-over in a share of 23rd. Du Toit made it on the number, finishing in a share of 26th on five-over after her closing two-over 75. Isabella van Rooyen didn’t make it through after a six-over 79 in the final round put her in a share of 47th on 11-over.
Stacy Bregman went through after her closing three-under-par 69 at Pre-Qualifier Rotana. She finished on one-under-par for her 54 holes, putting her in a share of 22nd. Zethu Myeki narrowly missed out, with her closing two-over-par 74 leaving her just one stroke out of qualifying. She finished in a share of 31st on one-over.
