Erik van Rooyen got his year in the PGA Tour off to a solid start when he carded an eight-under-par 65 on Sunday in the final round of The Sentry at Plantation Course at Kapalua Golf Club in Kapalua, Hawaii.
Van Rooyen made an eagle, seven birdies and a bogey in his final round for his second 65 of the week. He finished on 21-under-par for the week, and, in a tournament where scoring came easily in the first no-cut ‘Signature Event’ of the 2024 season, that put him eight shots behind the winner, Chris Kirk of the United States. Kirk also had a closing 65 to finish one clear of Sahith Theegala, with Jordan Spieth in third on 27-under-par.
Van Rooyen’s showing won him $220,000 and put him in a share of 22nd on the FedExCup rmkings after the first event.
