Werner Deyzel wrapped up a wire-to-wire victory on Thursday when he carded a third-round four-under 68 at Services Golf Club to win the Bushveld Tour’s Race to Q-School #5 by four shots.

Deyzel made four birdies without dropping a shot on the front nine, and he mixed up three birdies, three bogeys and three pars on the way home. Together with his opening 65 and his second round of five-under-par 67 he did more than enough to hold off a hard-charging Rigardt Albertse and Slade Pickering. Chase Paton of the United States, Ruan Groenewald and Tumelo Molloyi shared fourth on eight-under, a further four strokes back.

While Deyzel’s fast start and strong second round made it unlikely that he’d relinquish the lead, no-one told Albertse not to bother trying to catch him. The younger brother of the Sunshine Tour winner Louis made 10 birdies – five on each side – without dropping a shot on his way to a 10-under-par 62.

Pickering also had a charge, and his seven-under 65 had nine birdies and two bogeys.

With the win, Deyzel jumps into the top five of the Race to Q-School Order of Merit with eight tournaments to go.
