Aldrich Potgieter was left with plenty to think about after his closing level-par 71 on Sunday saw him slip down into a share of 20th in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard at Country Club de Bogota in Bogota, Colombia.
The youngster had taken the lead with a 59 in the second round, but weekend scores of two-over 73 and his closing level-par were not enough to keep him in contention. In the end, his total of 14-under-par left him eight shots out of the play-off between Americans Kevin Velo and Brian Campbell. Velo won on the first play-off hole.
Although Potgieter’s weekend was played on the more difficult of the two courses on which the tournament was played, he nonetheless made too many bogeys to stay in the fight with the leading players. In the final round, he made four bogeys, which were not adequately offset by his five birdies. That kind of performance was in stark contrast to the final round of Cristobal Del Solar of Chile, who had a 57 on the same course as Potgieter had his 59. Del Solar signed off with an eight-under 63, which, while it included two bogeys, had an eagle and eight birdies.
Potgieter, however, stays at the top of the Korn Ferry Tour’s points list, thanks to his victory in the Bahamas.
