Deon Germishuys was one of the big climbers on the latest Official World Golf Ranking list issued after the weekend as he jumped 26 places with his share of ninth in the DP World Tour’s Magical Kenya Open.
He moved into 342nd place, making him the 20th-ranked South African player according to the list as he leapfrogged Darren Fichardt who was in action on the Challenge Tour and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned Nelson Mandela Bay Challenge.
He is some way off his career-high ranking of 221st, which he reached after is share of third in the KLM Open at the end of May last year. But the upward trend after a solid showing in Nairobi is pleasing after he was as low as 415th after the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December last year after missing the cut.
Louis Oosthuizen also got a substantial boost with his runner-up finish in the International Series Oman on the Asian Tour. With world ranking points hard to come by for his, as they are for all LIV Golf players, his 30-place climb took him to 107th. He remains well outside the world’s top 50 which is the cut-off point at the end of March for earning an invitation to the Masters.
Erik van Rooyen, Ryan van Velzen, Casey Jarvis, Jacques Kruyswijk and Jbe’ Kruger all climbed inside South Africa’s top 25 according to the official list. The rest were all down, bar MJ Daffue who remained unchanged.
South Africa’s leading player remains Christiaan Bezuidenhout, down one place to 59th. Van Rooyen leapfrogged past Thriston Lawrence to become South Africa’s second-best player in 83rd.
