Keegan McLachlan was one of three players on Tuesday who carded a seven-under-par 65 at Port Elizabeth Golf Club to earn a spot in the main draw of the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour sanctioned SDC Championship.
McLachlan, like Ireland’s Richie O’Donavan and Jovan Rebula, went bogey-free for his 65, as he led 10 players into the field for the tournament which tees off on Thursday at St Francis Links just an our up the N2 from Gqeberha.
There were 59 starters in the qualifier, and the three leaders finished one stroke clear of Jacques P de Villiers, James Hart du Preez and England’s Jack Hawksby. Pierre Pellegrin of Mauritius, Sweden’s Fredrik From and Richardt Blaauw all carded five-under 67s.
There were seven players in a share of 10th on four-under, and local Kyle de Beer beat them all with a birdie on the first play-off hole. He trumped Zimbabwe’s Stuart Krog and South Africans Adam Breen, Matthew Spacey, Luke Trocado, Erhardt Lamprechts and Luke Brown.
