Shaun Norris was up 27 spots on the latest Official World Golf ranking list after he finished in a share of third in a tournament on the Japan Golf Tour at the weekend.

It took him to 323rd, his highest position this year as he started 2024 down in a lowly 450th spot, bit it is a long way off the heady days of his career-high of 54th.

One player who did reach a career-high was Aldrich Potgieter, who had a share of 10th on the Korn Ferry Tour and he was up 29 spots to 308th. He has climbed into the top 10 of the list of South Africans on the official world rankings, displacing Hennie du Plessis.

Thriston Lawrence’s win on the Sunshine Tour saw him climb two places to 74th. He’s on his way up towards the 71st place he achieved with his brilliant performance in the Open, and heading towards his career-high of 63rd. However, he’s probably at best an outside chance of getting picked for the Presidents Cup when the captain’s picks are announced next Tuesday. He’s currently the 19th-ranked player on the world rankings eligible for the Presidents Cup.

Thomas Aiken also had a good boost with his share of 14th on the DP World Tour. He was up 27 places to 367th.

Outside the top 25 South Africans, Justin Walters had a top-10 finish in the same tournament at Aiken, and he was up from 834th to 701st, a jump of 133 places.

South Africa’s top player remains Christiaan Bezuidenhout in 45th, unchanged from last week, with Erik van Rooyen also unchanged in 67th the second-ranked South African.
