Thriston Lawrence has risen to a career-high 62nd in the world after his runner-up finish in last week’s DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters, according to the latest list published by the Official World Golf Ranking.

In the process, he became South Africa’s second-highest ranked player according to that list, supplanting Erik van Rooyen in that position as he moves closer to the world’s top 50 and a possible date at Augusta National in April next year. He is also closing down the gap on South Africa’s top-ranked player, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who was down one spot on the list to 46th.

It was one of Lawrence’s best weeks in the ranking, behind his wonderful fourth place finish in the 152nd Open at Royal Troon in July, and three of his DP World Tour victories. It ranked just ahead of his win in the 2022 Investec South African Open Championship, too.

The biggest rise by a South African inside this country’s top 25 came from Daniel van Tonder, whose victory in the Sunshine Tour’s Gary & Vivienne Player Challenge at Kyalami Country Club saw him leap 144 places to 432nd. He’s now the 24th-best player according to the official listing – but a long way off his career-best of 71st.

Shaun Norris is also on a nice upward trend with his second runner-up finish in two weeks on the Japan Golf Tour. The latest one came in a tournament shortened to 36 holes by Typhoon Shanshan, and he was up 34 places to 289th.

Brandon Stone also had a substantial boost from his share of 12th in the Betfred British Masters, as he climbed 32 places to 326th.
