Casey Jarvis sank his bunker shot twice on the eighth on Friday on his way to a bogey-free round of six-under-par 64 in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland.
On his second-last hole of the day, Jarvis pitched the ball into the hole from a greenside bunker on the par-three eighth, it popped out and spun right back in again. It was the second of three birdies on the front nine after he had made three birdies on the back nine after starting his round on the 10th. He birdied the ninth for good measure after picking up a shot on the second too, and he moved to six-under-par through 36 holes and a share of 10th.
Jarvis was eight shots off the lead, which was held at 14-under-par by the metronomic Matt Wallace of England. Wallace did not look likely to make a mistake during his second round of eight-under-par 62. He was four shots clear of England compatriot Matt Fitzpatrick, with Swede Hendrik Norlander and Jordan Smith of England in a share of third on none-under-par.
A shot back from Jarvis on five-under-par, Thriston Lawrence overcame two bogeys to card a three-under-par 67 to move into a share of 18th.
Louis de Jager had a two-under 68 and was in a share of 25th on four-under together with Brandon Stone, who had a one-over 71. Jayden Schaper and Thomas Aiken were on three-under in a share of 32nd after rounds of level-par 70 and five-under 65 respectively. Darren Fichardt was the other South African to make the cut after a one-under 69 took him to two-under and a share of 46th.
Ockie Strydom, Justin Harding, Dylan Mostert, Oliver Bekker, Erik van Rooyen, George Coetzee, Dylan Frittelli , Pieter Moolman and Jaco Prinsloo all missed the cut.
