Pickering shrugs off front-9 bogeys for 2-stroke win in Big Easy Akasia

Slade Pickering had build up enough of a lead that his three bogeys on the front nine on Wednesday in the final round of the fourth tournament this season on the Betway Big Easy Tour were not enough to stop him claiming a two-stroke victory.

Having taken it to 12-under through 36 holes in the 54-hole tournament, three shots clear of his nearest pursuer. So bogeys on four, eight and nine at Akasia Golf Club were concerning, but he had enough wriggle-room to be able to regroup on the back nine.

He did just that, not dropping another shot and picking up a birdie on the 14th. That was enough to give him that two-stroke cushion of Graham van der Merwe, who had a closing two-under-par 70 to finish in second place on eight-under-par. In a share of second was Matthew Rushton, who closed with a one-under 71.
