Jaco Ahlers made an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys on Thursday for a four-under-par 68 in the opening round of the Asian Tour’s BNI Indonesian Masters.

Ahlers holed his approach shot on the par-four third for his eagle, and his bogeys came when he didn’t reach the greens on the par-four fifth and the par-three seventh in regulation. On the fifth, he was unable to get up and down from the greenside bunker, and on the seventh, he also failed to get up and down from off the green.

For the rest, it was a solid round for Ahlers, as he hit 13 of 14 fairways, and 13 of 18 greens in regulation. It was his putting that impressed, even though he didn’t need to putt on the third. He had seven one-putts in his 27 putts for the round.

He was six strokes behind the leader, as Richard T Lee of Canada carded a 10-under-par 62 with two eagles, seven birdies and a bogey. Lee led by one from Jazz Janewattananond of Thailand.

Jbe’ Kruger opened with a two-under-par 70 to take a share of 46th, and Ian Snyman’s one-under 71 had him in a share of 68th.
