Nicole Garcia was the best of the three South Africans in action on Friday in the second round of the Ladies European Tour’s Andalucia Open de Espana at Real Club Guadalhorce Golf in Malaga, Spain, with her two-under-par 70.
Unfortunately, her card was bookended by two bogeys on the second and third and on the 16th and 17th. In between, she made six birdies to go with her opening round of two-over-par 74. At level-par through 36 holes, she was in a share of 41st, 11 strokes off the lead.
Carlota Ciganda of Spain fired a round of six-under-par 66 to hold a one-shot lead at the halfway stage. The seven-time LET winner began the day two shots off the pace but had a bogey-free second day. Slovenia’s Pia Babnik carded a bogey-free round of 67 for the second day in a row to be in outright second place. India’s Pranavi Urs and Germany’s Helen Briem were in a share of third place on nine-under-par after they both signed for rounds of 69.
Lee-Anne Pace and Casandra Alexander were both a shot behind Garcia on one-over-par in a share of 48th place after rounds of level-par 72 and four-over 76 respectively.
