Ashleigh Buhai gave herself a chance of an unprecedented three titles in a row in the ISPS HANDA Women’s Australian Open on Saturday with a third round of six-under-par 67 at Kingston Heath Golf Club.
After her opening level-par 73 with four birdies and four bogeys, and her bogey-free four-under 68 on the par-72 Victoria Golf Club course, Buhai played superbly for her seven birdies as she dropped just a single shot on a grey and drizzly day.
At 10-under for the tournament with just a single round to go, Buhai is four shots off the lead which was held at 14-under by Jiyai Shin of Korea. Shin also had a six-under 67, and she was two strokes clear of Australia’s Hannah Green, who had a 68.
Those three players will be in a crackerjack three-ball. Shin and Buhai are both major champions, and Green will be egged on by her home fans.
