Shaun Norris finished yet another good year on the Japan Golf Tour with a victory over the weekend, and that saw him climb 42 places on the latest Official World Golf Ranking list to 218th place.

Japan has turned into a lucrative hunting ground for the man who has won three times on the Sunshine Tour. His win in the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup was his seventh on the Japan Golf Tour, and his first in over three years. While he has a long way to go to regain the heights of his career on the world rankings list, where he reached 54th in 2020, he is on the rise.

The biggest climber amongst South Africans was Charl Schwartzel, who zoomed 309 places up the lost to 422nd. Of course, he has not been bothering the world ranking system since his move to LIV Golf, and his infrequent forays into events where points are up for grabs have not been very profitable. However, he finished second last week on the Asian Tour in the International Series Qatar, and that boosted him back inside the country’s top 25 players according to the official list.

In the same tournament, Louis Oosthuizen finished in a share of third and climbed 42 places to 204th, and Dean Burmester was in a share of fifth and climbed to 120th, up 10 places.

The country’s top-ranked player, Thriston Lawrence was up one place to 47th, and he had the Nedbank Golf Challenge and the Alfred Dunhill Championshiup at Leopard Creek to help him stay inside the top 50 and assure himself of an invitation to the Masters next April.
