Dylan Frittelli played himself right into the mix on Saturday, with a five-under-par 67 in the third round of the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club lifting him into a share of sixth.

After just a single birdie on the front nine, Frittelli hit his approach from the right native area on the 10th22 yards past the hole into the greenside rough. He promptly holed it for eagle to ignite his round, and two more birdies – on the 13th and 14th – saw him home without any bogeys on his card on a 54-hole total of eight-under-par.

That put him five strokes off the lead which was held by New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier. Hiller had a third round of two-under-par 70 to move into a one-stroke lead at 13-under over Tyrell Hatton. Hatton, like Frittelli, had a 68 and he was two clear of halfway leader Ewen Ferguson of Scotland who had a two-over 74 in the third round.

Frittelli shared sixth with countryman Shaun Norris, Northern Irishman Tom McKibbin and another Scot, Calum Hill. Norris made four bogeys on his front nine, and four birdies on the back nine for his level-par 72.

Jayden Schaper revived his tournament after a poor second round with a five-under 67 in the third round lifted him to a share of 19th on five-under-par. Casey Jarvis and Louis de Jager were in a share of 25th on four-under after rounds of level-par and one-over respectively.

Jacques Kruyswijk was on level-par after a third round of 73, while Robin Williams crashed to a horrible eight-over 80 with an eagle, a birdie, six bogeys, a double-bogey and a triple-bogey eight on the last hole.
